New Site Format

You will notice that the look of my blog has completely changed.

Don't Panic

You will hopefully find it both more engaging and easier to navigate. I wanted to make changes that would make things easier for my existing readers and make it easier for new readers to easily find all my existing content.

Changes

  • Hideable scroller bar displaying my posts which have been most commented on (Homepage)
  • New menu bar allowing navigation by destination
  • Large featured scroller showing my six most recent blog posts (Homepage)
  • Sidebar widget allowing you to browse posts by popularity, those which are most recent or post tags
  • A new logo (Not exactly finalised)
  • You can now comment on posts using your Facebook or Twitter accounts
  • Captcha code required for posts and email form (I just received far too much spam sorry)
  • You can now follow ‘Sam’s Playground’ on Facebook (I’ve created a page/app)
  • New video viewing format on my page footer (not all uploaded yet)
  • And more…

If you are an existing reader and find yourself panicking with all the changes you can just click on ‘Blog’ to reach a chronological display of blog posts, just like how the old format was organised. However you will find the large featured automatic post scroller on the homepage displays my six latest blog posts for you to click on.

Note. Due to the crappy nature of Internet Explorer and my limited abilities as a website programmer you will find there are existing bugs which have yet to be resolved when viewed with Internet Explorer – Best viewed with the latest versions of Firefox or Chrome.

If you  have any questions, comments or suggestions please fire them through.

What Else?

It’s been so long since I’ve written a post that I fear I’ve forgotten how to write, even worse in the time since my last post I’ve read quite a few blogs by other authors, many of which I really enjoyed, more so than my own. Which is a problem because if you don’t like my writing as much as another bloggers I can just say “screw you, I’m writing it for myself anyway.” But if I don’t like it as much as another bloggers then I don’t know what to say, I can only push on blindly in search of some kind of improvement. When I get around to it I’ll add some links to the blogs of some pretty cool travellers, they’re certainly a good place to look if you don’t find what you’re looking for on my site.

On the other hand I’m excited about some technical improvements to my blog which I’ve already touched on. Occasionally I find an urge to write about something, not necessarily related to travel and the new format should hopefully give me a suitable new platform to rant on.

In line with trying to constantly improve my blog I’ve thought about trying to get some guest author content. I’ve met a lot of amazing people while I’ve been travelling and if I could somehow convince one or any of them to write a guest piece on my blog, well that would totally make my day. Any aspiring guest authors out there?
