Prague (Czech Republic) by Backpack

16 – 17 August 2010

My overnight train from Krakow had gone well, overall it had been a comfortable journey and I’d slept well (With the aid of an eye mask and ear plugs).

I arrived in Prague and made the easy walk from the main train station to the central area where I found a hostel. I did a lot of walking around the city that day; my highlight was a late lunch and drink at a beer garden overlooking the river.

The following day was similarly uneventful; I did a free walking tour of the central old town area, checked out the castle and drank a few beers.

I spotted the coolest motoring contradiction, a Porsche with a roof rack. So after speeding around the streets you can strap a mountain bike or canoe to your roof and head into the wilderness.

That evening I packed my bag for an early flight the following morning to London. I love Europe for the ease of travel between countries and the reasonably prices flights available from a number of providers. It’s not just flying which is easy in Europe, the trains are amazing although not always cheap, and there seem to be plenty of buses and other public transport options.
(Note/ the Prague airport is a breeze to get to on public transport, cheap and easy; its good).

It was a shame to be heading back to London because it meant the end of my European exploration (I was heading back to London to catch my flight across to the United States – save for a brief stop in Iceland). That said, I’d had an amazing few months in Europe, with great times on a Contiki bus tours but also travelling by myself. I know I’ll have to go back one day…
