Koh Samui to Koh Phangan

23 May 2010

It was a very rough start as I had been up till five the previous morning on the internet. However with a couple of hours of sleep under my belt James and I headed out to figure out how to get to Koh Phangan. I’ll take this opportunity to note that James and I have been taking the idea of backpacking without plans to the extreme; we will even stay in a place for four nights and not bother to check ferry times until we have the backpack on! I’m aiming to plan more in the future but I’m still not convinced this is necessary, so far we have not had any major issues; we’re tough, we can put up with bad timing.

We found a travel agent and $250 THB later we were booked in for our trip to Koh Phangan. Taxi and then a ferry, but it wasn’t due to leave until 4pm, about 3 hours away (Yes hiccups do occur when you don’t plan). We killed time through wondering around the shops again and I purchased a pair of jeans and a couple of t-shirts so that I don’t look like such a scruff in Europe (Unexpected bonus that may not have happened if I had planned the ferry departure time).

The ferry ride over was straightforward, upon arrival we wondered from the ferry dock over to Sunset Beach, the Full Moon Party beach and found accommodation at a place called Same Same, I can’t recommend it other than for its free WiFi.
