Second Night in Bangkok & Riots

01 May 2010

Later that night James headed to bed and I was taking a shower. From the bathroom I could hear what sounded like the riots going on outside; I was a little freaked out. After turning off the buzz of the air conditioning I was sure they were out on our street yelling, drumming and chanting. I woke James; he agreed that I wasn’t imagining it all so we decided we needed to investigate, not before checking our escape route out of the window and on to the roof below.

Out of our room in the corridor we couldn’t find a window which had a view of the street so we ended up heading downstairs cautiously. James peered outside from the reception area and when I joined him we could see that there was no rioting, the street was happy with people dining outside and no issues whatsoever.

The lady at reception said there was no point worrying, the riot sounds were drifting over the city to us. She said the riots were close, but also far away; somewhat cryptic but it made perfect sense to us so we went back to bed.
