Took a bus (ute with seats in the back) to Ao Nang expecting a livelier joint that Krabi Town. It’s all setup as a tourist destination but it just doesn’t have enough tourists, it’s too quiet. I put the problem down to tourists not knowing where the ‘good spot’ to go is and since it isn’t a popular spot for locals (they probably can’t afford the prices) there are no popular spots – period.
If this place had 90% less bars and restaurants it would be really fun as it has an amazing setting with a back drop of cliffs and a picture perfect beach. In peak season I’m sure it’s great but at this time of year (and political climate) there appears to be 10 locals attempting to make money from each tourist.
To me it has the sleazy feel of Patong Beach without the fun of the tourist crowds. I spent last night walking along the beach front road trying to find a nice busy restaurant to eat in, all I found was hundreds of different restaurants each with zero, one or two customers. It is only made harder when each place has one or two individuals out front trying to get you to eat inside. I was looking forward to leaving.

James went on an elephant ride while I stayed in our room to type – free WiFi was Ao Nang’s one redeeming feature.

Is it legal to have guns in public? Because James seems to be proudly showing off his 2 guns in those photos.
Hmm good question. I may have to bring it to the attention of the authorities.
